Naruta - our totem

At Charlestown South Public School, we belong to the Wiyellai Koa Community of schools. Each school within the Wiyellai Koa has selected and animal or bird totem in tribute to the Aboriginal practice that links animal or bird totems to country and people.

We have chosen the Naruta (Blue Tongue Lizard) as our totem. These creatures are seen basking in the sun on our paths, particularly in the colder months, and find shelter in our beautiful gardens and Nature Play area. The story of the Naruta, alongside other school totems, is beautifully captured in the Wiyellai Koa book and video, which we share with our community.
